Many have asked when we will start offering kids classes and your requests have been heard! Our Instructors have spent time designing a program that is engaging, technique driven, and helps provide a place for kids to practice BJJ!
BJJ as an Extracurricular Activity?
While there will always be concern for getting your children enrolled in a physical activity or sport, it doesn’t mean you would want to deprive a child of getting involved in an extracurricular activity. There is plenty of protective gear in place, just as there would be for little league, and skilled instructors monitoring the floors at all times. There may even be more benefits from getting your son or daughter into this type of training as opposed to, or in addition to, football or basketball.
Some of these seem to rely heavily upon the competitive side without including any real discipline training. Getting your kids involved with BJJ can help them as their main activity or when combined with other athletic choices they may be involved with. At least incorporating martial arts with other sports will help with athletic conditioning, as well as get that healthy dose of respect and discipline training in there, too.
Other Benefits of BJJ for Children
It isn’t just about getting in shape, or even the respect and discipline. Kids these days lack confidence and that can be even worse if they are targeted by a bully. Children and teens who train in mixed martial arts become much more confident. This helps them be less likely to be subjected to bullying but, even if they are, they will be able to defend themselves.
Also, it seems kids who are given a physical outlet for their energy or aggression is less likely to be bullies or have other rage related issues. This gives them a place to channel their extra energy instead of just letting it build up. BJJ for kids also means they can detach from their electronics for at least an hour a day and find other interests. Also, because martial arts relies heavily on focus, children with ADD (attention deficit disorders) often benefit from this, as well.
